2 What is Time Management?
The process of planning and exercising conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities to increase: Effectiveness Efficiency Productivity

3 Steven Covey Steven Covey was an American educator, author, businessman, and keynote speaker. He is the author of the books “The Seven Habits of Highly Productive People (1989)” and “First Things First (1993)” “First Things First” is a book that offers a time management approach that, if established as a habit, is intended to help a person achieve effectiveness by aligning them to "First Things".

4 Covey’s Time Management Matrix
We live in a time pressured world and it is common to have multiple overlapping commitments. Covey’s Time Management matrix is an effective method of organizing your priorities. In Quadrant 1 (top left) we have important, urgent items. These items need to be dealt with immediately. In Quadrant 2 (top right) we have important, but not urgent items. These items are important but do not require your immediate attention, and need to be planned for.  Covey emphasizes this is the quadrant that we should focus on for long term achievement of goals. In Quadrant 3 (bottom left) we have urgent, but unimportant items -  items which should be minimized or eliminated. In Quadrant 4 (bottom right) we have unimportant and also not urgent items – items that don’t have to be done anytime soon, perhaps add little to no value and also should be minimized or eliminated.

5 POSEC Method POSEC is an acronym for Prioritize by Organizing, Streamlining, Economizing and Contributing. This method dictates a template which emphasizes an individual's immediate sense of emotional and financial security. It suggests that by attending to one's personal responsibilities first, an individual is better positioned to shoulder collective responsibilities. Deeply rooted in the acronym is a ranking of self-realization Prioritize - Your time and define your life by goals. Organize - Things you have to accomplish regularly to be successful (family and finances). Streamline - Things you may not like to do, but must do (work and chores). Economize - Things you should do or may even like to do, but they are not pressingly urgent (pastimes and socializing). Contribute - By paying attention to the few remaining things that make a difference (social obligations).

6 Task Lists A task list is a list of items to be completed, such as chores or steps toward completing a project. They are inventory tools which serve as a supplement to memory. Task lists are used in self-management, business management, project management, etc. When one of the items on a task list is accomplished, the task is checked or crossed off.

7 Procrastination Procrastination is referred to as the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones. Impending tasks are put to a later time, sometimes to the "last minute" before the deadline. Procrastination has been linked to a number of negative associations, such as depression, irrational behavior, low self-esteem, anxiety, poor study habits, and neurological disorders such as ADHD while others have found relationships with guilt and stress.

8 Time Management & Personal Health
As university students we all have our own commitments and responsibilities which are important for our individual success. Time management allows us to accomplish more with less effort by staying focused on the task at hand. It is important to manage our time properly in order to maintain positive personal health and reduce stress. When you control your time and work more efficiently, you're able to learn more and increase your experience faster.
