3 Family Connection Strategies: Bringing Parents Back to School  Established a Parent, Family, & Community Engagement Board  Developed a survey for current kindergarten parents to determine needs  Currently gathering data on involvement in program support offerings and alignment to struggles/successes as WaKids data is reviewed  Offer classes such as READY! For Kindergarten and Parenting with Love & Logic

4 Quincy K-3 schools participated in the following activities: Hosted welcoming family events such as:  Kindergarten open house in May  August Kindergarten Conferences  Provide families with literature focusing on child development, study skills, goals, information on WaKIDS & Parent Involvement  Distributed books on helping with math and science

5 READY! for Kindergarten and Parenting with Love & Logic Offering early learning opportunities to parents of:  4-5 year olds, to date 59 families have attended  3-4 year olds, to date 26 families have attended  0-1 year olds, to date 3 have attended  27 Childcare providers have attended CCP curriculum  Parenting with Love & Logic 30 families have attended

6 Outcomes:  Families are more prepared to support their children’s learning and education  Prepares parents to be active in home-school partnerships  Parents attend more programs and events offered by their school and school district  Children are more prepared for early learning

7 Family Connection: Lessons Learned What Would We Change  Choose better dates to accommodate agricultural working families  Offer more dates/options to attend READY! For Kindergarten  Consider offering more classes and activities to parents to support children in other grade levels

8 Whole Child Assessment

9 Kindergarten Reading Coaches developed crosswalks to analyze current district assessments to: 1) Determine ways DIBELS and classroom based assessments might inform Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment 2) How the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment may replace DIBELS and classroom assessments currently used in our Kindergarten classes QSD Developmental Preschool teacher will administer the TS GOLD assessment

10 Early Learning Collaboration: It Takes a Village! Community Partners: Childcare Providers (CCP), Preschools other community organizations  Hosted two dinner meetings for childcare providers to meet, share ideas and create partnerships in early learning with the Quincy School District.  In attendance: 31 CCP, 4 preschool teachers, 4 Kindergarten teachers, 2 Representatives from Childcare Aware  Youth Organizations/high school students provide childcare while parents are in class

12 Early Learning Collaboration: What Worked:  Personal invitations from district staff and Parent Engagement Coordinator  Explaining what Kindergarten is like today & asking what childcare expectations are like today  Able to purchase curriculum and currently offer READY! For Kindergarten classes specifically for childcare providers. Target age range is 2-5

13 Early Learning: Lessons Learned  Establish relationship with licensing agents/Childcare Aware  Meet with Childcare Providers in person  Send out school newsletters to providers  Encourage them to visit schools in the community  Inspire and encourage them that they too are teachers!  Meet with CCP regularly to continue the partnership

15 The Future of Project “Ready to ROAR”  Continue offering READY! for Kindergarten, Parenting with Love and Logic and supporting early learning for families in the Quincy School District  Establish a chapter of the Children’s Reading Foundation to promote early literacy  Offer a Parent Academy for Student Achievement  Securing long term funding to continue our work
