Raspberry Pi: Automated Garden Monitoring System Stacy, Devin, Brandon

Project Description  Goal: implement an automated greenhouse monitor system.  Platforms:  Raspberry Pi for sensor integration  MySQL Database Backend  Android Application Controller  Web Application

Project Description  Functions:  Monitor and store various metrics such as light, relative humidity, soil moisture, temperature, water level, etc.  Provide application to view this data remotely, as well as database back end to access and view past statistics.  Explore scalability

Current Market  Present Implementation:  Various sensors are monitored separately  Current consumers:  greenhouses, hobbyists, farmers  Limitations:  Resources, costs, time, accessibility/usability

Our Approach  Several sensors integrated into Raspberry Pi platform that can be monitored from a single convenient application.  Information can be viewed both in real time and by querying the database of past metrics all in the same Android application.

Project Advantage  “Smart” devices are on the rise ( tablets, phones, etc ), high demand.  Increasing in availability, usability  An integrated, aesthetically pleasing, easy to use app  Market includes garden enthusiasts and with proper scalability, greenhouse managers.  Low costs  Affordability of Raspberry Pi  Higher Levels of Customization  Raspberry Pi is open source

Contributions  Improves efficiency  Allows remote care of plants.  Allows user to be constantly plugged in to their agricultural operation, resulting in better care and plant yield.

Current Progress  Sensor Integration  All sensors reporting valid data  Android GUI  Prototype generated  Work done towards integration with database  Database  Sample data collected  Database populated with sample data

Sensor & Raspberry Pi Setup Photocell Temp/Hum Sensor Soil Moisture Sensor Raspberry Pi

Future Progress  Set up environment  Sprinkler/irrigation system  Lighting  Plants  Connect Database  Set up Raspberry Pi to act as database server  Refine Android Application  Integrate with Raspberry Pi and database
