13 Reading Seven Strands Use a range of strategies to read for meaning- read words on sight, blending sounds to work out unfamiliar works, use of context, grammatical awareness, taking account of punctuation, fluency, expression. 2. Understanding- Recalling specific straightforward information, clear where to look for information, quoting the text directly in response to a question, retelling the story. 3. Interpretation- use evidence from the text to describe how a character is feeling, personal speculation, meaning established at more literal level i.e. it says she was sobbing so she must have been really upset. 4. Comment on organisation and presentation – punctuation types, using index and contents pages, glossary, fiction or non-fiction. 5. Commenting on writer’s language- identifies new words, questions meaning of words, spots patterns of language. 6. Writers purpose and viewpoint- simple statements about likes and dislikes 7. Relating texts- to own experiences, finding texts with similar settings, events and characters or by the same author.

making pictures from shapes, seeing shapes in things around us, patterns. Ordinal numbers- using ordinal numbers to describe the position of something, naming left and right positions. Numbers to 20- counting objects, representing as tens and ones, ordering and comparing. Addition and Subtraction within 20- the ‘make 10’ strategy, regrouping 2-digit numbers into tens and ones Length – comparing, measuring using non-standard units.
