4. The Early Bird Road I. Get a special learners permit -be a least 16 -have a signed consent from parent/guardian -enroll in an approved driving school (6 hrs. behind the wheel) -pass the vision and written driver test -pay the required fee ($10)

5. II. Practice Supervised Driving -practice w/ an adult supervising driver in the front passenger seat -observe the student permit driving restrictions -practice for at least 6 months

6. Student Permit Driving Restrictions - Must have an adult who is at least 21 and has had a NJ driver license for at least 3 years - No driving between 11 pm & 5 am - Passengers are from driver’s household, plus one add’l person - All occupants wear seat belts - Driver may not use cell phone on the road

7. III. Get a Provisional Driver License -be at least 17 -complete the supervised period -pass the road test

8. IV. Driving Unsupervised -can’t drive between 12:01 am & 5:00 am -passengers must be from the driver’s household, plus one additional person (if the passengers are over the age of 21 there are no passenger restrictions)

9. V. Get the Basic Driver License -be at least 18 -complete the unsupervised driving period for at least a year -pay the required fee ($24)

10. The Young Adult Road I. Get an examination permit -be at least 17 -parental/guardian consent -pass vision and written driver test -pay fee

11. II. Practice supervised driving - practice w/ and adult driver -observe the permit restrictions -practice for 6 months

12. III. Get a provisional driver license -complete the supervised driving period -pass the road test

13. IV. Practice unsupervised driving -same as early bird road

14. V. Get basic driver license -complete the unsupervised driving period -pay fee
