13 Art Studio and Design: Application for the major is made with a portfolio of 12 works in any media. Application deadlines are October 15 and January 31. Most Art and Design courses are restricted to majors only. Students pursuing education also need to apply to Woodring College of Education. Dance: To declare, a student must have completed 15 college credits and Contemporary Dance placement of Level One or above. Contact department for placement information. Music: The prerequisite for all Music degrees is the entrance audition on the primary instrument/voice. Prospective Composition majors must also submit a portfolio of previous work for faculty review. Theatre: To declare, a student must have completed 9-12 credits (with a 3.0 or higher) from the following list of Theatre classes: THTR 101, 160, 201, 212, 213, 216, 228, or 260

20 Math Placement Information Next MPT Tuesday, September 22 nd at 9am in Fraser 4 Check the Math Placement Scores section for any grades or scores that may place you into a math course at Western. Scores from this morning’s MPT will display online in this section after 1pm The Math Placement Information section displays math courses that you may take based only on your Math Placement Test (MPT) score. Consult with an advisor to consider all placement information and choose the appropriate course for you.

25 Building an appropriate schedule Credit Load = average 14-16 credits (3-4 classes) Balance credit load, class types and sizes, and other commitments Plan time for out-of-class assignments and to study Pay attention to prerequisites and course sequencing Many majors such as Languages, Math, Science, Pre-Healthcare, and Engineering should begin their coursework fall quarter to stay on track Learning to develop a good schedule is a valuable skill for academic success and to avoid making registration changes that may affect financial aid/student loan eligibility. 39 1.Check your registration status—Talk to an advisor if you have holds. 2.Copy any GUR transfer credits onto your GUR Checklist. 3.Identify and find major requirements using the Catalog, or explore majors of interest using GURs. 4.Look for open classes in ClassFinder that will fulfill GURs or Major Requirements for fall quarter. 5.Create and print multiple fall quarter schedules, using ClassFinder’s Scratch Sheet. If you are writing down your course schedules, don’t forget to include the CRN – the 5-digit purple number used to register for that class.
