1 HCS Objective To determine if measurement of postprandial TG level improves risk prediction of CV events over traditional risk markers in stable patients with CVD Study Design Prospective, observational, cohort (18-month time frame) 514 consecutive patients with angiographically confirmed, clinically stable CAD Primary Outcome Composite of CV death and CV hospitalization (including hospitalization for ACS, unplanned coronary angiography, HF, ischemic stroke or TIA, cardiac arrhythmia requiring resuscitation, and unplanned cardiac device implantation)

2 HCS Key Findings

3 HCS Summary Postprandial TG did not predict CV outcomes in the total cohort of patients with CAD on statin treatment In patients with CAD and IGT/diabetes, fasting and postprandial TG were elevated but did not independently predict CV outcomes In patients with CAD and normal glucose metabolism, both fasting and postprandial TG were independent markers for CV outcomes Conclusion Fasting triglycerides and postprandial triglycerides correlate with CV events in patients with CAD and normal glucose tolerance but do not independently predict CV outcomes in patients with impaired glucose metabolism
