1 Short Primer on Power Point Using MS Office 2003 So I have this black-and-white presentation. Now what? by Dan Gilbert Associate Professor, Business Administration Tennessee Wesleyan College

2 Formatting a Slide Design From the Format menu, select Slide Design. The Slide Designs available to you will show in the right navigation window. Select one and see how the design fits with your presentation, audience, material. Experiment with a few designs.

3 Insert a New Slide From the Insert menu, select New Slide. To change from the default style to a different one, highlight the layout you want from the right navigation window. Close the right navigation window.

4 Adding Clip Art From the Insert menu, select Picture. Select Clip Art. Type in a search term. For example, “meetings.” Double click the image to insert it. You may have to adjust your text box after the image is inserted. Too much clip art in a business presentation may be considered inappropriate.

5 Inserting a Picture from a File From the Insert menu, select Picture. Select From File. Find the directory and file name where the picture is found. Double click on the file name of the picture. Drag the picture to the preferred location. Right click on the picture to format it, crop it, change it.

6 Pasting a Graph from Excel With Excel open, click on the desired graph. Select copy from the Standard toolbar. Switch to the Power Point Slide where you want the graph to be displayed. Select paste from the Standard toolbar. Adjust the size of the graph by dragging the corner.

7 Adding Animations Open the slide on which the animation is the occur. Select Slide Show, then Custom Animations. Custom Animation opens in the right navigation window. Highlight the text box, graph or image you want to animate. Select Add Effect from the Custom Animation Window. Select Entrance. Select the desired effect. Add more effects by highlighted additional text boxes, images, etc. Experiment to see what the different entrance effects do.
