Chicago Chapter 10/10/20153 BDPA National Organization History and Purpose Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA) is a not-for-profit professional association founded in 1975 in Philadelphia, PA. BDPA has grown into a national organization with over 40 chapters chartered throughout the United States. Organization membership is open to all with expressed interest in the information technology industry regardless of race, sex, religious beliefs or national origin.

Chicago Chapter 10/10/20154 BDPA Education & Technology Foundation (BETF) History and Purpose BETF is a 501 (c) 3 educational organization. Gifts and contributions to BETF are tax deductible. Most BDPA local chapters carry 501 (c) 6 status. Since 1975, BDPA has educated and trained minority professionals working in the information technology industry. BDPA has successfully reached out to many, and has provided opportunities through networking, educational programs, monthly seminars, monthly workshops and annual conferences. Educational and technical opportunities still reach the African American community at a slow pace. BDPA has a larger task and broader range of people (especially youth) to reach. Recognizing the need for accelerated action, the BETF was established.

Chicago Chapter 10/10/20155 BDPA Chicago Chapter OBJECTIVES To accumulate a pool of data processing knowledge and business experience with the intention of utilizing these resources to strengthen the expertise of minority members of the data processing community To offer this expertise to those minorities evaluating data processing for future career/business potential To broaden the data processing knowledge of the minority community as a whole, and participate in all activities directly related thereto MEMBERSHIP Broad spectrum of Information Technology Professionals Members welcomed without regard to race, sex, religious beliefs or national origin More than 50 major corporations represented –Entrepreneurs –Educators –Students The Chicago Chapter was chartered March 16, 1986, and is currently the largest BDPA chapter, with over 500 members. STRUCTURE Governed by Board of Directors 6 Elected Officers 8 Appointed Directors FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY Funded by membership dues, funding events grants and donations

Chicago Chapter 10/10/20156 The BDPA Chicago Chapter CAC was established in April 1990 and is comprised of corporate representatives who have joined in support and sponsorship of BDPA Chicago Chapter programs and activities. The CAC functions as an advisory board to the Chicago Chapter Board of Directors and hosts the Annual Education Banquet and CIO Reception. Members of the CAC determine membership in the CAC and provide advice and counsel to the President and officers of BDPA, The CAC meets monthly on the last Tuesday. Standing sub-committees meet as necessary to carry out their objectives. OBJECTIVES Serve as a sounding board for ideas and programs Provide business leadership to enable the organization to function effectively Assist with the development of strategies for funding CAC members provide funding and support to BDPA to carry out professional development and education outreach programs MEMBERSHIP The CAC is comprised of senior management from corporations who have expressed interest in BDPA activities and is by invitation of the Corporate Advisory Council. Chicago Chapter 10/10/20157 BDPA Chicago Chapter Activities Monthly Program Meetings -Timeframe: Every 3rd Friday, January thru November These meetings are held for information sharing, networking and center around formal presentations in leading edge technology. Professional Development Seminars and Workshops - Timeframe: Continuous Seminars, workshops and professional certification study groups are held on a variety of topics like Web page design (JAVA, HTML), Microsoft Office tools, Novell Software, data security, career development and personal development. –Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are developed and conducted with current technologies and events in the Information Technology industry. BDPA Chicago Chapter is also instrumental in coordinating and conducting seminars and workshops at the National BDPA Convention annually. Communications - Timeframe: Continuous Along with monthly program meetings, several communications have been created to effectively communicate with other interested parties. They are: –The BDPA Chicago Chapter web site www.bdpa-chicago.org –A voicemail and messaging system that announces upcoming events and accepts message for follow-up contact –BDPA Chicago Chapter Newsletter

Chicago Chapter 10/10/20158 BDPA Chicago Chapter Activities Corporate Marketing – Timeframe: Continuous This is a structured program of meetings, proposals, and requests for corporate support of BDPA programs and activities. This activity is structured around corporate contact at CAC meetings, Banquets and the CIO Reception. CIO Reception - Timeframe: November A reception for Chicago area Senior Information Technology Managers that not only gives them the opportunity to learn about BDPA Chicago Chapter programs and activities, but also gives them the rare opportunity to network with each other.

Chicago Chapter 10/10/20159 BDPA Chicago Chapter Activities Awards Banquet – Timeframe: January This event is held annually to acknowledge contributions of the members, acknowledge contributions of supporting and sponsoring corporations, recognize community volunteers and raise funds to support the chapter's operating budget. Career Fair - Timeframe: January This event is held to give exposure to our sponsors, provide career opportunities to our members in the City of Chicago and surrounding suburbs and raise funds to support our scholarship fund.

Chicago Chapter 10/10/201510 BDPA Chicago Chapter Activities Education Banquet – Timeframe: June Sponsored by the BDPA Chicago Chapter Corporate Advisory Council, at this event, funds are raised to support scholarships, support team training and defray expenses relating to participation in the National Computer Competition and other educational programs. Golf Outing – Timeframe: May Sponsored by BDPA Chicago Chapter, raises funds to support scholarship fund, support team training, defray expenses relating to participation in the National Computer Competition and other educational programs.

Chicago Chapter 10/10/201512 National BDPA Technology Conference The national conference held in August is an annual forum dedicated to joining IT Professionals with the latest technology advances, and career and professional development opportunities. The mission is to provide access to the most innovative concepts in emerging technologies, theories, research and education. Full registration to this event includes access to leading edge workshops and seminars, plenary sessions, opening ceremony and awards gala, conference guide, conference proceedings and a souvenir conference bag.

Chicago Chapter 10/10/201514 BDPA Corporate Chapter Program To achieve the benefits of becoming a corporate partner, the BDPA Corporate Chapter Program presents an organized forum, within a company, for employees to meet on a regular basis in support of the mission and goals of the corporation and the National BDPA organization. The fundamental objectives are to: –Enhance communications among employees throughout the corporation –Develop teams and collaborative efforts –Initiate meaningful technology projects –Support a Mentor or Internship Program –Ensure employee participation in community service activities –Maintain a positive, diverse and professional work environment –Develop leadership and management through volunteerism –Enhance pride in the corporation –Increase BDPA membership and national conference participation –Provide a forum to interact with Information Technology product purchasers –Increase access to talent pools of qualified candidates
