What Is An Elevator Pitch? An elevator pitch, elevator speech, or elevator statement is a short summary used to quickly and simply define a person, profession, product, service, organization or event and its value proposition. This is a short, pre-prepared speech that explains what your organization does, clearly and succinctly. Scenario: Pretend that you run into your potential employer in an elevator and you have only a few minutes to introduce yourself to him/her. What would you say? Yinan Zheng; Interorganizational Liaison
12
Why Is It Important? You only have 30-60 seconds to make a powerful first impression and market yourself. The attention span of the average person is just 30 seconds before their mind starts wandering. People today feel as if they have less time. Learn to seize opportunities before you, even if the timing is short!
13
Essential Elements of a Powerful Elevator Pitch Make sure you are… Concise Clear Powerful Visual Tell a Story Targeted Goal Oriented Able to present a Hook
14
Let’s Take a Look at a Simple Example… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDpe9StfGTA
15
Let’s Practice! Take 5 minutes to brainstorm your own elevator pitch. Mingle! Start your own speech with people around you. Use your piece of paper to write down the names of 5 people that you talked to and believe had the best pitch. Submit your votes for the best speech. The best speeches will present on the stage!

Resume Overview Why have a solid resume? It displays... Your professional background A short summary of your skills Shows off your talents Grabs the attention of an employer The key part of a great resume is it’s ability to impress a potential employer and eventually propel you towards future opportunities! Jacob Poore; Interorganizational Liaison
