Aims Promoting academic, intellectual and cultural exchange between Japanese and French Consortium Universities To facilitate exchanges between institutions in a wider range of disciplines than would be possible with individual exchanges

The Chart A Chart is signed by Ministries, University Conferences, Research institutes of each country to give the responsability : - to create a national consortium - to create a joint steering commitee - to give the conditions to apply for the grant The conditions to apply for the grant are : - a co-supervised thesis, with a supervisor in each country - a « sandwich » thesis with 1 year in home country, 6 months to one year in host country, 1 year in home country - one thesis defence only, with a mixed committee and a double diploma when possible

Figures French Consortium : 54 institutions delivering PhD, members of CPU and CDEFI. Japanese Consortium : 34 institutions delivering PhD (State Universities, Public Universities and Private Universities) Number of French students sent to Japan since 2002 : 69 Number of Japanese students sent to France since 2002 : 150 The number of French consortium membres decreased due to a change in its running and not because of a lack of interest
