Nursing Research Capacity Building
2
Background CON –opened as 9 th College at SQU in 2008 The CON’s next challenge is promoting nursing care based on scientifically proved nursing interventions. This requires nursing research -which is vital to advancing nursing knowledge and translation of science into evidence-based practice. But there is need to strengthen the foundation of excellence in nursing research by faculty, graduates and clinical practice nurses in partner hospitals
3
Background faculty are striving to face the challenge of ensuring evidence based practice and high standards of nursing scholarship will result in better nursing care, research supervisors and mentors for postgraduate students and conduct of research relevant to Oman.
4
Background In literature it was mentioned that One of the main barriers to nursing research are ▫ Lack of knowledge, ▫Lack of skills and ▫ Confidence to engage in the research process. One strategy to address this gap is to implement research capacity building (RCB) interventions among nursing faculty and indigenous Omani nurses based in the local hospitals.
5
Goal and Purpose The goal is to enhance excellence in nursing research. The purpose is to build research capacity through twinning, training, mentoring and collaboration
6
Methods to be Used to Achieve the Goal Twining of CoN faculty with Omani Nurses in Clinical practice. Training workshops focusing on critical elements of the nursing research process. Mentoring ( Collaborating) research teams to develop their capacity, skills and confidence in research and scholarship
7
Methods to be Used to Achieve the Goal Measuring outcomes of each project activity. Modifying subsequent activity to ensure that they meet the needs of participants.
8
Benefits Enrichment of existing research Knowledge and skills Enhanced research confidence Publication and research activity which can lead to promotion Establishing of Research networks between faculty and hospitals
9
Benefits International Collaboration A mentor (collaborator) will be working with each team (Mentor-CONF-CPN), three will form a unit to produce a proposal for funding, and work on preparing manuscript. Understanding about the funding sources ( in Oman and international )
10
