Society and Culture at the End of the Twentieth Century

DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGES: SURGE OF IMMIGRATION AFTER 1965, SUNBELT MIGRATION, AND THE “GRAYING” OF AMERICA Topic 1

America’s population is aging by the minute. Due to the baby boom those people are in their middle ages supporting their families the best they can and probably hoping to retire soon. As these people are getting older, hints the word graying, things like Medicare and social security will be needed more than ever so in the next couple of decades this will be a huge financial strain. This is considered a demographic change. A M E R I C A *Baby Boom* Refers to the explosion of the U.S. birth rate from 1946 to 1964

REVOLUTIONS IN BIOTECHNOLOGY, MASS COMMUNICATION, AND COMPUTERS Topic 2

Mass communication is very helpful to us, it’s how most of us get our information. Whether it’s through radio, computer, books, magazines, television, or the newspaper we all eventually hear about what is or what was going on in our world. Take history class for example even though we did not live during that time, we have textbooks and documentaries made so that we can learn about past times. More and more businesses are changing to computers to advance their technology. Computers are also used for social networking, such as facebook and email. Email has become a very popular way of communication. Biotechnology revolution refers to the impressions of new technologies that let life be distorted at its genes. One of the most recent moves is to clone human beings. That is really neat that we figured out how to clone humans but if we clone more humans to the world that would mean more people that could reproduce. The population would increase.

POLITICS IN A MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY T o p i c 3

Politics by themselves may already have their differences, but when you add people from different cultures it allows us to have an open mind when deciding what is best for our country. Having so many different languages and cultures gives us a great opportunity to learn about others heritage and also so we can take into consideration of what would best suit for all the different heritages. As an example, president Barack Obama was the first ever African American president. The African Americans who shared his culture were so thrilled because they had come along way in history when African American’s were slaves and they were treated poorly.
