What is Work-Based Learning ? Work-based learning stresses career preparation and application. It helps students connect school to the world of work and future career opportunities. Career preparation activities integrate academic and technical skills learned in the classroom with work- based skills that prepare students for further training and/or a career. Listed below are ways work-based learning is incorporated into high school curriculum: Apprenticeships Career Fairs Field Studies Guest Speakers Job Shadows Reality Town Service Learning Student Internships Work-based learning helps answer the questions often posed by students: “Why do I have to learn this?” or “When will I ever use this?” Students perform better academically when they see relevance and application of what they are learning. WORK-BASED LEARNING

http://www.jatc-wj.org/ http://www.jatc-wj.org/ Only juniors and seniors may enroll Students must submit an application and most programs require an entrance assessment JATC has two sessions per day: a morning session and an afternoon session. Students attend their regular high school for two periods and JATC for two periods every day. JATC courses fulfill either the CTE or elective credit graduation requirements. Some classes also fulfill the Applied, Advanced, or Foundation science requirement. Plan ahead! If you think you may want to apply to the JATC for either one or two years, map out your schedule ahead of time in order meet all graduation requirements. JORDAN APPLIED TECHNOLOGY CENTER
