Background August 7 th Fund Development Work Session Compelling need for increased funding Limited funds available for fund developer Need to develop funding priorities in a proactive manner

Goal: Continue Implementing GOMC 2012-2017 Action Plan Extremely important to build upon GOMC Action Plan Action Plan is an advantage Foundations prefer projects that support regional plans Vision and goals are already well defined

Goal: Continue Implementing GOMC 2012-2017 Action Plan Utilize existing GOMC resources! Prioritize! Select projects that: 1. Address critical environmental concerns 2. Focus on priorities not addressed by other organizations 3. Capitalize on strengths of GOMC 4. Will have a compelling impact on the region Think Big! Develop priority project write-ups for mid to large scale projects

Proposed Activities Develop brief write-ups highlighting key GOMC projects that are in need of funding Transform GOMC work plans and project ideas into proposals for funding Identify links to GOMC 2012-2017 Action Plan Provide a resource for new fund development contractor * Underlying Goal is to Fund GOMC Action Plan

Process (1 of 2) Council Coordinator develops template for priority projects with input from Working Group Committee Co-chairs or other committee representatives use template to prepare priority project write-ups Committees work together to develop priority project write-ups for cross cutting initiatives

Process (2 of 2) Council Coordinator compiles priority project write ups into one report / or online resource area Fund developer utilizes write-ups as a resource for matching potential funding opportunities with GOMC programs Fund developer works with project leads to build upon initial project descriptions Committee Co-Chairs or other representatives create new priority project write ups as needed

Timeline October 2013: Council Coordinator finalizes template and distributes to committees. October / November 2013: Committees write up priority projects for funding. Council Coordinator prepares summary report. December 2013: Summary report submitted to Council for review / feedback / approval at December Working Group meeting. 2014: Fund developer writes proposals for priority projects – works with project leads to expand brief write-ups. Additional write-ups prepared as needed.
