Energy Efficiency in the Slovakian Building Sector, continued cooperation with Norway? Slovak University of Technology Faculty of Civil Engineering in Bratislava Prof. Ing. Dusan PETRAS, PhD.

Introduction of Norwegian methods and tools University education programmes Training of energy auditors Information dissemination; conferences and seminars, articles, textbooks Pilot projects ……… Cooperation STU - Norway (ENSI) since 1992 A very strong and active Energy Efficiency Team at the University

Norwegian methods and tools, introducing: systematic approach for project development Detailed Auditing with guarantee Simplified Auditing Operation Implementation Scanning Project Identification ENCON Potential Profit Business Planning

Norwegian methods and tools, introducing: Multidisciplinary Energy Auditing Operation / user pattern Fans and pumps Building envelope HVAC systems Building automation Lighting and equipment Domestic hot water

Norwegian methods and tools, introducing: Energy budgeting, kWh/m 2 year

Norwegian methods and tools, introducing: Software for energy calculations

Energy consumption [kWh/m² week] Mean outdoor temperature [°C] 15 10 5 20100-10-20 Unique ET-curve for each building Norwegian methods and tools, introducing: Energy monitoring by the ET-curve approach

The NAFTA VVA buildingThe NAFTA AB Malacky building Early Energy Auditing of Slovakian buildings

Publishing of first Textbook “Energy Auditing of Buildings”, Bratislava (1996)

Further cooperation and “Training of trainers”, Oslo

Second Textbook, “Energy Auditing of Buildings” (2003)

Until year 2007 were built 20 000 dwelling houses The number of flats in those dwelling houses is 850 000 50% of citizens in Slovakia live in dwelling houses The rest of people live in single family houses Active approach by saving energy:  Slovakia is importing 90% of their energy (10% - coal)  Protecting the environment  Citizens vs. Economy influence Reducing the energy consumption in buildings - top priority in Slovakia Situation in Slovakia

Faculty of Civil Engineering First Building Society Savings Bank Program EAS v1.0 Energy Audit of Buildings Quantifies the most effective energy measures in Buildings New tool developed, based on introduced Norwegian methods and tools

Calculations of:  Energy savings  Investments  Profitability Calculate measures individually (depends on the customer) Three basic domains of energy measures: EAS v1.0; energy – economy calculations Heating System Building Envelope Hot Water

EAS v1.0; graphical presentation

EU Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings Objectives : To promote the improvement of the energy performance of buildings through cost effective measures (new and existing buildings) The Directive require the following to be introduced: Methodology for calculating the energy performance of buildings; Application of performance standards for new and existing buildings Certification schemes for buildings; Regular inspection and assessment of boilers, heating systems and air conditioning systems Adjusted versions of further developed Norwegian methods and tools could support Slovakia to comply with the EU Directive !

Project proposed to the Norwegian Financial Mechanism “Slovakian adoption of tools and software for energy certification, auditing and monitoring of buildings” Adjustment of manuals and tools Adjustment of Software for calculating the energy performance of buildings Development of Slovakian performance indicators Training of trainers Pilot project Updating of University education programmes Continued training of energy auditors Costs...and then we implemented the EU EPB Directive
