2 What I Want to be  When I grow up I am interested in being a civil engineer. A civil engineer plans and builds buildings and roads for public use.

3 Pros and Cons of Being a Civil Engineer  PROS:  Civil Engineers help cities by building buildings and roads. Improved buildings and roads help the economy grow.  Civil Engineers earn high pay.  Civil Engineers don’t always have to stay in their office.  CONS:  They work long hours during the week. 40+ hours.  Often they are on the road overseeing projects on site.  Failed projects could make business fail.

4 Schooling  To be a civil engineer means many years of college. You have to earn a bachelors degree in civil engineering from an accredited program.  Some of the courses that need to be completed are:  Calculus  Trigonometry  Thermodynamics  Physics  Chemistry All of these are important, especially the mathematics courses because it helps engineers make the calculations necessary to plan a building or road.  Then you have to get a state license (professional engineer license). To maintain the license you must complete continuing education courses.

5 Industry and Industry growth  Right now there are 272,900 jobs in the working industry.  From 2012-2022 the job growth is approximately 20%

6 Money Management It is sometimes tough to manage money. Make a plan to get it organized so you are not out of money. A civil engineer earns an average salary of $79,470.00. Here is the breakdown for an average civil engineer’s monthly income and expenses: Monthly Income= $6113.60 Savings: 10% = $611.36 Housing: 25% = $1528.40 Transportation: 5% = $305.68 Food: 15% = $917.04 Clothes: 5% = $305.68

7 Money Management Continued Utilities: 20% = $1222.72 Personal Expenses: 5% = $305.68 Entertainment: 3% = $183.40 Set Aside: 2% = $122.28 Left Over: 10% = $611.36
