Objectives To discuss and ask for advise from WGISS’ Issues Data Management (USGS Perspective) Data Access (Data Democracy Portal) To Update the meeting on current activities

Background o Data Democracy was initiated in 2008 o End to End process, aiming to strengthen the EO data utilization cycle by o broadening data in-and situ data/information access o increasing data dissemination capabilities o sharing software tools, and o transferring the technologies o To end users, especially in developing countries o CEOS continues to support this project (2008-present) o Under purview of CEOS Troika o In 2009, approved as a GEO task in 2009-2010 GEO Work Plan o CB-09-05e: Infrastructure Development and Technology Transfer for Information Access -Data Democracy, led by CEOS o Part of GEO Ministerial CBC Showcase

Data Democracy Portal o Need one place where users can easily access to those products given by CEOS community o Put all accumulated products in one place o By using a search engine which can initially extract product’ s keywords, thus, users could find data/ documents/ software that they really look for o No actual images contain in a server but the linkage which guides users to the actual product location o CEOS members could update the list of products at anytime when they have a new product comes to the program o Troika closely works with SEO

Data Access o Upload tool for product providers o keywords shall be requested from products’ providers o use as inputs for search engine o Standard but simple o Search Engine o The more keywords provided, the better results o Suggestion and Recommendations from WGISS

Current activities o Preparation for Showcase at the GEO Ministerial o Training and Workshop on “EO Technology for Climate change” o June 7-10, 2010, Bangkok Thailand o To introduce users in SE Asia on how to o Access and make use of Satellite data for Climate change applications o Lecturers from CEOS (USGS, INPE, JAXA, GISTDA), CMA, and AIT
