Vocabulary Solar System: the sun and its 9 planets along with many moons, asteroids and comets Revolution: one full orbit around something Axis: an imaginary line through the center of something Rotation: one whole spin of an object on its axis
3
Earths Orbit: Earths orbit is elliptical which describes a slightly ovaled circle. Notice how a planet moves slightly closer to the sun at certain points in the orbit. If earth makes one full orbit around the sun you have revolved around the sun once. Day and Night: The spinning of Earths axis causes some parts of the planet to face the sun for a certain amount of time about 12 hours. One day or One full rotation is equal to 24 hours. Earths orbit

Earths Comfortable Temperature: Earth doesnt get as hot or as cold as any of the Other planets. Earth has a layer of air that helps prevent Earth from overheating in the suns rays. The Pattern of the Seasons: Since the Earth is tilted on an axis it has different seasons. At the beginning of a year you are in winter if you are in the Northern Hemisphere. Then you will be in spring, not Tilting away or toward the sun. Then in summer youre tilted toward the sun. after that you're in fall tilting as if in spring. Winter in northern hemisphere summer In northern hemisphere spring fall
