Is This How You Feel When Working With Technology?
4
Challenges Faculty intimidated by technology Time limitations Limited Resources to support faculty with their course redesign Provide faculty professional development using technology that is curriculum-driven and integrative
5
Solution: Students Mentoring Faculty Involved in the professional development of instructors Learn technology skills appropriate to the given project Apply teaching skills to a “technology challenged” faculty member, through planning and collaboration that would help the student’s future career as an educator
6
Benefits for Student Mentors Simultaneously witness real curriculum design and pedagogical practices while modeling a pedagogy of technology to their faculty mentees Demonstrate through learning activities how these technologies can be applied in a teaching and learning environment Receive mastery of subject matter by comparing and contrasting specific technologies
7
Benefits for Mentored Faculty Addresses the chasm among faculty and student perceptions of technology use in the classroom Discover effective technology uses, resolving the challenges they encounter while simultaneously helping their own students to use technology Facilitate and model collaborative experiences in the context of technology integration

Let’s Take a Look

Sample Student Projects Web Pages Newsletter Excellent webpage. Everything is laid out nicely and it is very pleasing to the eye! Great Job!Newsletter Field Hockey I have to give you full points for the creativity of putting this "storybook" together. You did match the content quite efficiently with the pictures. For a future website that would be about you I suggest including other areas as well considering that you had a rich past as an athlete and I assume as a student. In addition you present role at MSU would also be quite important to share. But as a start you did an excellent job.Field Hockey e-Portfolios Carolee Sarah

How did the sessions go? Background information –Students mentored faculty for approximately six weeks –Scheduled appointments around their schedule and faculty availability –Some worked with an agenda and gave homework –Required to complete session summaries after each meeting, which were posted for peer review Let’s meet Mark mms://caldwell.montclair.edu/users/kahnp/mark_j.wmv

The Student Survey Says…

Student’s Comments I think you should go more in depth with Blackboard from the instructors point of view. The information I learned about the content area of blackboard was very useful as was the information about lecture 1-2-3 I enjoyed the iMovie. I found it very helpful to learn the program and work with my mentor with it. I hope to incorporate it into my program.

The Faculty Survey Says…

Faculty Comments By taking this course I did move ahead much more than I would have if I did not sign up. I started to use blackboard to email students and to post some resource materials. The sessions with Lauren were extremely helpful and productive. I I would like to continue with this mentoring. I would really like to put my Field Experiences class on powerpoint with sound, pictures, links etc, this spring semester. I would also like to use blackboard more fully. Having weekly assistance is very helpful and motivating for me. It forces me to make time to work on my "limited" skills.
17
I only touched the surface of using the available technologies. I would like to find a way to continue with one-one-one mentoring or have regular assistance from IT during the spring semester to improve my skills.

Thank You!
