Indus River Valley Geography Hindu Kush Karakoram Himalaya ranges Indus-Ganges plain in north Desert in West Deccan plateau in south Seasonal winds called monsoons Settlements/Buildings Planned cities with fortified citadel and uniform housing; brick buildings with plumbing and sewer systems

Religious Beliefs They worshiped major Indian god Shiva, mother goddess, fertility images, and cattle Economic life Farming, long-distance trade, production of nonessential goods; prosperous economy

Chinese Civilization The Ancient Chinese Civilization was located at the Huang He (yellow) and Yangtze River systems. The Huang He flooded the area. They had walled cities, elaborate palaces, tombs, timber-framed homes within the city

Their social classes were the warrior nobles and peasants. The family had central authority in Chinese society. The elderly had special privileges and women were treated as inferiors. In their religious beliefs they worshipped spirits of family ancestors, supreme god and lesser gods. They consulted gods through oracle bones.

Their writing system consisted of many different characters, and each represented an idea. Technologically, they manufactured weapons and religious items. They also produced bronze work. They also produced silk clothing.
