2 Sharks Sharks have been on earth for more than 450 million years. Older than dinosaurs. Sharks belong to the class of fish: Chondrichtyes. More than 400 shark species

3 Habitat Generally live in waters from 7,000 feet to 10,000 feet. Only come to the surface when searching for food.

4 Physical Characteristics Cartilage skeleton: flexible and lighter tissue for better movement. Skin: made up of dentricles which are hard, sharp teeth that help protect from injuries

5 The Mouth Can move their upper and lower jaws Each type of shark has different shaped teeth depending on what it eats. Sharks have many rows of teeth. As teeth wear down or fallout those from the back move into forward slots.

6 Diet Most sharks are carnivores. Live on a diet of fish and sea mammals (dolphins and seals). Some sharks will eat other sharks. Sharks have super senses that help them find predators. – 2/3 of their brain is dedicated to smell – Can feel vibrations to alert of potential prey
