3. Eating Schedule (In Madrid) Daily Eating Schedule 7:30am-10:30am Light Breakfast 2:30pm-4:00pm Large Lunch (often Menú del Dia/ 2 courses) Same time as siesta where people go home and just rest. 5:30pm-6:00pm Snack to Hold us Over Until Tapas 8:30pm-11:30pm Light Dinner (Tapas or Pinchos)

4. Food! (Breakfast) Tortilla (an omelette made with potatoes and eggs) Churros con Chocolate (deep-fried pastries dipped in thick chocolate) Tostada (grilled + buttered white bread with jam) Café con Leche (strong coffee with milk)

5. Food! (Lunch) Paella (rice dish with seafood and meat) Jamon! (ham cooked anyway you like, served everywhere) Mariscos (seafood, often fried) Sopa Castellana (chicken soup with bread and scrambled egg floating in it) Huevos Revueltos (scrambled eggs with ham and potatoes or sometimes shrimp)

6. Food! (Dinner-Tapas) Gambas a la Plancha (grilled prawns) Croquetas (little fried balls of ham and cheese) Tostas (bread, toasted with anything imaginable on it) Tortilla (served same as at breakfast) Setas Segovia (stir-fried mushrooms with ham) Eating Tostas outside of El Capricho Extrameño

Madrid Pastimes Watching flamenco (traditional Spanish dance from the south) Watching fútball (Soccer) on Television in Bars or sometimes even going to the games Hanging out (especially in bars and cafés) Strolling around the city (mostly in Sol area) Renting boats and hanging out in Parque Retiro (a large park in the center of Madrid) Renting Boats in Parque Retiro

Major Places in Madrid Plaza Mayor (the main plaza in Madrid) Puerta del Sol (center of Spain in the peoples’ minds) Plaza de España (plaza near the international section of Madrid) El Oso y el Madroño (statue of a bear eating off a strawberry tree, main meeting place for many Madrileños in Sol area) Statue of King Felipe III in Plaza Mayor with a Mural on the Wall Behind It

9. Street Performers Lots of Accordion Players! (they belong in Paris not Madrid) Some Spanish Guitar Players (they usually have nice music) Mimes (some are actually really good) Bad Singers in the Metro (once one sang Bésame Mucho, which literally means Kiss Me A Lot) Artists (mostly on Plaza Mayor with some really cool paintings) Caricaturists (artists who draw your face comically) Mud-Mime in Plaza Mayor

Sport Teams Sport Teams of Madrid Real Madrid-Soccer Atléticos-Soccer Real Madrid-Basketball Estudiantes-Basketball Stadiums Estadio Santiago Bernabéu (Real Madrid soccer team plays there) Estadio Vicente Calderón (Atléticos play there) Palacio Vistalegre (both basketball teams play there) Real Madrid Flag hanging in Madeleine’s room

11. Cultural “Must Do’s” in Madrid Museo del Prado (the biggest art museum in Madrid with lots of famous paintings) A Bullfight! Parque Retiro Sitting in a Café in Plaza Mayor (maybe for only a drink, you pay for the atmosphere) Staying up in a bar until midnight Bullfight in Plaza de Toros, Madrid

12. Our Favorites! El Diamante (best place for churros and tortilla that I’ve tried) La Finca de Susana (chef and waiters school with good, cheap food) El Capricho Extrameño (best place for tostas) Ricci (best gelato place in the world, even better than in Italy) Eating pallea in La Finca de Susana
