Some Definitions Problem Gambling: Gambling behavior which causes disruptions in any major area of life: psychological, physical, social or vocational. Pathological Gambling: Persistent and recurrent maladaptive gambling behavior that disrupts personal, family or vocational pursuits.

Prevalence: Adult problem or pathological gamblers in Oregon more than 74,000 Oregon adults (2.7% of adults) (Moore, 2006) about 6,000 are over 62 years old (1.2%) (Moore, 2001)

Oregon’s Problem Gambling Treatment Efforts 14,500 Oregonians have enrolled in gambling treatment since 1995. Treatment is working. 81% of clients reported either no gambling or reduced gambling at 6- months post-treatment. (Moore & Marotta, in press)

Oregon’s Problem Gambling Treatment Efforts In 2006 Oregon’s Problem Helpline received about 5,000 calls and made almost 3,000 referrals to treatment. Twenty-four outpatient treatment centers serve 2,000 Oregonians annually. Oregon has one residential problem gambling treatment center and three crisis-respite programs serving the entire state.

Jackson County Problem Gambling Treatment Program What it is: A collaborative effort between Addictions Recovery Center and OnTrack, Inc. to provide comprehensive treatment services for problem gambling.

Jackson County Problem Gambling Treatment Program What it does: The Gambling Awareness Program is a therapeutic process by which the gambler and family members learn coping skills necessary to overcome gambling addiction. In addition, the program addresses areas such as financial crisis, trust, intimacy, and co- occurring emotional conditions.

Jackson County Problem Gambling Treatment Program What it costs: The Gambling Awareness Program is a free service, provided through contractual arrangement with Jackson County Health and Human Services and paid for through State lottery funds.

Jackson County Problem Gambling Treatment Program How to begin: A phone call to either the Addictions Recovery Center at 779 - 1282 or OnTrack at 772 - 1777 is all it takes to begin the enrollment process. Enrollment can occur within 72 hours of initial contact. Groups meet at a neutral location (not at the treatment facilities). Individual and family counseling sessions are scheduled on an ‘as needed’ basis.

Types of Services Provided: Diagnostic Assessment Individual, couple and family counseling Group Therapy Education Case management Services are provided in a safe and confidential environment, and is individualized to meet the specific needs of the client.

Gambling Program FAQ What is the cost of the gambling program? There is NO COST to receive services through the gambling program. There are NO income requirements to receive treatment. How do I enroll? Enrollment is easy. An initial appointment will need to be scheduled to complete the enrollment process. We have both day and evening appointments available. Phone 779-1282 or 772-1777 to begin the enrollment process.

Gambling Program FAQ My spouse has a gambling problem. Can you help me? Yes. Our program is designed to help both the gambler and family members. Family members can enroll on their own, or along with the problem gambler. Is your program GA (Gambler’s Anonymous)? Our program is TREATMENT. Group and individual sessions are designed to assist the gambler in overcoming gambling addiction. We do refer to and encourage client to attend regular GA meetings as part of their therapeutic process.

Gambling Program FAQ When and where do your groups meet? Currently, groups are held Monday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Clients need to be enrolled in the program BEFORE they can attend groups. Individual appointments are scheduled on an as needed basis, and take place either at the Addictions Recovery Center or OnTrack (depending on who is the client’s case manager).
