4 What, when, and who? What? A transition meeting When? Prior to end of spring semester and after officer elections and appointments, if possible Who? Outgoing CEB- Mandatory Incoming CEB- Mandatory Advisor- Optional National Society of Black Engineers

5 Pre Planning Preparation Send out transition report template Inform attendees to bring fall class schedules Book room and distribute when, where, and who attends Make sure transition reports are completed prior to transition meeting National Society of Black Engineers

9 Chapter Leader Expectations Duties of an officer Commitment to NSBE NSBE is NOT a 9 month organization!!!! Introduce and distribute officer contract Importance of the officer contract Agreement of officer duties Communicates expectations Communicates consequences Establishes a commitment to NSBE Signed by incoming officer and chapter advisor National Society of Black Engineers

NOL requirements Chartered chapter At least 10 paid members Top five appointed in system Confirmed Dean Confirmed Advisor Your University’s requirements Check with your student activities department DEADLINES Create them and stick to them!!!! 12 Meet the new NEB/REB Who do you report to in your chapter? Your region? Your REB/NEB counterpart Best method of communication Counterpart expectations Their contact info Monthly reports Who do I turn them into? When are they due? To chapter? To region? National Society of Black Engineers

13 Know your NSBE A must to be a NSBE officer! The Mission Founded at Purdue University in 1975 Chicago Six (John Logan, Edward Coleman, George Smith, Stan Kirtley, Brian Harris, Anthony Harris) Meaning of the Torch symbol NSBE acronyms and history Largest student run organization in the country! Covers 6 geographic regions More than 350 collegiate chapters, 75 PCI chapters, and 75 AE chapters You do have an impact in your chapter, school, community and NSBE! National Society of Black Engineers

14 National Programs Signature programs Umbrella and direct impact programs that align us with the mission and directives of the organization (i.e. A Walk for Education, Special Interest Group.) National Society of Black Engineers

15 National Programs Staple programs Standard yearly provided programs that continue to develop the competency and ability of our members (i.e. Academic Tech Bowl, Try-Math-A-Lon.) National/Regional/Chapter programs steps Become Knowledgeable Register Participate Develop as a member National Society of Black Engineers

16 Building the network Conducted by incoming chapter chair Review Action Items Collect signed contracts Collect dues Complete New/Old CEB contact list Emails Checked at least 2 times per week Phone numbers Reachable numbers Make sure everyone is clear on their responsibility National Society of Black Engineers

For NSBE The new CEB is the lifeline for the chapter Strive to fulfill the NSBE Mission For my chapter Prepare for a Chapter Planning Retreat Develop the future of NSBE members Actively develop and identify new leaders For me Know your NSBE and do everything you can to fulfill the NSBE mission! 19 NSBE it’s your turn…..Share As a leader do you wonder what you are supposed to be doing? Did your chapter have a transition meeting? How do you transition new leaders? When do you transition? What works or doesn’t work for your chapter? Are you asking for a commitment from your officers? National Society of Black Engineers
