In the 1960s, U.S. sent troops into Vietnam. Also, the Soviet Union pointed missiles at America from Cuba. This is called the Cuban Missile Crisis. John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

Our economy was growing! Unemployment was down, technology was feeding innovation, and firms were very productive.

The most popular television shows were The Andy Griffith Show, The Avengers, and Batman.

Men had crew cuts, and women had bouffant hairstyles. Men had casual, plaid shirts with buttons. Women wore knee-length dresses. By mid-decade, mini-skirts were worn with boots.

Some slang words used in the 60s were A gas, meaning a lot of fun. All show no go was used to mean a car with all the cool stuff but couldnt hold its own. An ankle biter was a baby or small child.

On Sept, 26, 1960, John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon made history for making the first televised American presidential debate. President John F. Kennedy made the Peace Corps in 1961, too. Also, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I have a dream" speech in 1963.
