I Don’t Want to Sound Repetitive But Paul really wants His point to be heard. *Remember how Paul wanted them to really grasp the gospel? So they can hear it, understand it, and live it. *The gospel has been presented, but Paul had some other theological issues to work through, especially regarding the Jews *They were a tough nut to crack
14
Abraham *Quick Bio... *Paul uses Abraham as an example and he was a great example to use. -Believed God and it was credited to Him as righteousness -His faith was credited as righteousness, not his works -Therefore he had no reason to boast -He was considered right by God before he was circumcised
15
Abraham’s Faith *He believed against all hope: -He was old and his wife wasn’t able to have children *He didn’t weaken in his faith: -Even through the sins and struggles -His faith was strengthened *His continued faith allowed him to experience the power of God......To do the “impossible”...To save and use someone as “useless” as he...To keep His promises *His faith is an example (Faith in Action)
16
“Abraham did not walk by sight; he walked by faith. What God promises, He performs. All we need to do is believe. Abraham’s initial faith in God recorded in Genesis 15 did not diminish in the years that followed. In Genesis 17-18, Abraham was strong in faith. It was this faith that gave him strength to be the father of a son in his old age. The application to salvation is clear: God must wait until the sinner is “dead” and unable to help himself before He can release His saving power.”
17
The Words, “It Was Credited...” “...Were not written for Abraham alone, but also for us to whom God will credit righteousness - for us who believe in Him who raised Jesus from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” *When we accept Jesus as our Savior, an exchange takes place. 1. We give Him our sins 2. He forgives us & makes us right 3. He equips us for His service
