Media Center Hours 7:30 am (with a pass) After school until 3:15 (unless you have made prior arrangements)

Entrance/Exit Use Main Galley doors except in the case of emergency.

General Rules No food, drink, candy or gum are permitted in the media center. You must have a pass when you come individually or in small groups.

General Rules Only 4 students per table. Please push in chairs when leaving. Check out all items properly before leaving the media center.

Check Out Procedure 3 books per student for a loan period of 2 weeks. Check green date due card for return date. Magazines and newspapers may be read in the library.

Check Out Procedures Return books to the Book Drop at the circulation desk. Fines for overdue books are $.10 per day per book.

Kinds of Library Materials Books (General Collection) Fiction – stories made up by the author Non Fiction –books that contain factual information Biography – books that tells the story of a persons life. Graphic Novels – illustrated books in comic book format Accelerated Reader (yellow dot) Spanish language (blue dot) Reference Books Audio Books & Playaways (books in mp3 format) Magazines Newspapers

Using the Media Center Use Destiny, the librarys Computer Catalog to locate books. Search by Author, Title or Subject Use the Call number or Call letters to locate books in the library. The call number tells you where the book is shelved in the library. The Destiny icon is located in the Student Applications folder.

Research Reference books are available for use in the reference room, but may not be checked out. Xerox copies are $.10 each. The Internet may be searched by clicking on the Internet Explorer icon.

Computer print outs Black & white copies are $.10 per page. Color copies are $.50 per page. Use print preview to determine number of pages. Print only the pages you need.

Useful Internet Sites Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) www.avl.lib.al.us www.avl.lib.al.us Provides online access to library resources that would be helpful with your research projects. AVL databases include full text encyclopedia, magazine, and newspaper articles. AVL may be accessed at school or at home. See media specialists for password for home use.
