7. - Some contend today that we are to be baptized “in the name of Jesus (only)” and such is the wording that MUST be said over a person just prior to water baptism or the baptism is not scriptural - IF God intended some “baptism formula/wording” to be mandated, thus excluding any and all other “wording” that is in harmony with Scripture, how would we “know it” (Rom. 10.17) - We have no record of what anyone said at the time of baptism in the entire NT concerning the “one baptism” of Eph. 4, nor any command - It IS scriptural and advisable to properly/accurately state what is going on for ALL parties concerned! NKJV rendering follows (not same wording in all translations): - In the name of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit (Matthew 28.18-20) - In the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2.38) - In the name of the Lord (Acts 10.48) - In the name of the Lord Jesus (Acts 8.16; 19.5) In every case (above and in examples of baptism) of scriptural NT baptism to put one into Christ, there is no “specific wording or formula or name that must be uttered” in order for the baptism to be valid. 9. - An incorrect action is not a correct action (axiomatic) - Baptism for the wrong reason(s) is not a baptism that pleases God - Baptism for the wrong reason(s) does not accomplish God’s reasons - Does “baptism in the name of John” (Acts 19) make one a child of God? - What was the “solution” in the NT, for those who were not baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins, but had been “baptized” previously? - When someone today simply says “I have been baptized”, should we be concerned with asking “why” they were baptized?
