IEEE Membership Grades IEEE membership IEEE membership is open to professionals and Students with varying levels of academic accomplishment and work experience. Technical and non-technical applicants who would benefit by membership and participation in the IEEE enter as Associate members. Member and Senior Member grades recognize those who have achieved professional proficiency, as demonstrated by degrees received and/or work experience IEEE Fellow grade is reserved for those members with unusual distinction in the profession and is conferred only by invitation of the Board of Directors.

Volunteering in IEEE A major benefit for IEEE members is the ability to shape the IEEE by participating in activities and volunteering. One third of all IEEE members volunteer in one way or another.volunteer in one way or another Organize activities within the local IEEE Section, Society Chapter, or Affinity Group Network with colleagues and peers on social and professional levels Develop leadership skills while learning how to organize and delegate responsibilities

Keeping Current One of the most important tools for the young professional is to keep current in your area of expertise. IEEE provides resources to its members : IEEE society publications, conference journals & transactions and electronic databases Local chapter presentations and workshops Local & international workshops and conferences IEEE Society web sites

INITIATING GOLD ACTIVITIES IN YOUR SECTION
18
GOLD Activity Implementation Models Program Model Region and Section will appoint a GOLD Chair to implement and oversee GOLD activity Affinity Group Model This model is a formal under Section or Chapters.
19
Quick start of GOLD activities in Section, Society or Chapter 1. Pulling together your GOLD members. 2. Persuade the GOLD members to volunteer activities in Affinity Group. 3. Officially form GOLD Affinity Group by filling the forms that are available on the web. 4. Apply for Quick Start Incentive Fund (QSIF) of 200 $ from IEEE RAB GOLD Committee. 5. Let the GOLD Affinity Group do their volunteer activities and make a report to the section. Many good ideas are included in the GOLD Program Resources GuideGOLD Program Resources Guide 6. Develop a mentoring system for GOLD Affinity Group.
20
Tip of technique for pulling together GOLD members in your section Use SAMIEEE membership diskette to provide a listing of graduating student members in your Section. Invite these members to a reception or graduation banquet honoring graduating students. Begin plans for having recent graduates visit local schools to discuss their first year of post-graduate experiences. Arrangement of a recent alumni discussion panel could be very effective. Develop a program for career planning, interviewing workshops, job hunting for recent graduates.
21
How to apply for QSIF IEEE RAB GOLD Committee is offering a base funding amount of $200US. This funding program is available to GOLD groups only after they have officially formed an IEEE GOLD Affinity Group. Funds are available for GOLD Affinity Groups on a one-time-only basis. In order to obtain these funds, the IEEE RAB GOLD Committee requests you complete the QSIF Form with some conditions.QSIF Form
22
Conditions for obtaining Quick Start Incentive Fund (QSIF) Submit electronically a proposal from Section, Society or Chapter GOLD group outlining the activities which will be pursued and how the monies will be spent to: gold@ieee.org or submit via snail mail directly to Cathy Downer, IEEE Regional Activities, 445 Hoes Lane, Piscataway, NJ 08855- 1331, USA.gold@ieee.org The IEEE RAB will provide with an answer in two to three weeks. The Section or Chapter will also be expected to determine the correct programs for their GOLD members by involving GOLD members in the process.
23
Conditions for obtaining Quick Start Incentive Fund (QSIF) The Section will be required to report the use of the funds and provide recommendations and suggestions that could be used to improve the GOLD Program The GOLD Affinity Group Chair is expected to participate in the normal reporting activities of the Section. The annual Section Rebate allows for $180 for qualifying Affinity Groups.

28
Some interesting actions done by GOLD Affinity Group in R8 GOLDen mentor for Student Branch (SB) Chairs Local activities promotion in Newsletter, e-mail, web site. Send a ‘Quick Facts’ e-mail to graduating students. Organize joint GOLD/SB Activities @ university Provide names for “GOLDen Welcome” initiative. Find speakers through help from Section and Chapters. Organize ‘Technical Lunches’: during lunch there is a speaker on a topic oriented towards GOLD target group. Joint programs with other young member organizations. Organize industry talks GOLD@Chapter: GOLD members get together to attend chapter meetings. As reported by Mario De Weerd
29
Aiming beyond
30
Project in the future by RAB GOLD committee Engage Sections in activities for GOLD and students by outreaching to graduating Student Branch Chairs. Develop program for mentoring/partnerships with Sections/Chapters to GOLD Affinity Groups Build relationship program with Industry and GOLD Affinity Groups Educational tools in seminar or tutorial format for young engineers via CD and/or online IEEE Job Site with job postings for Regions 7, 8, 9 and 10
