Internet Safety Protect your identity –Do NOT give away your Name, Address, phone / credit card / bank numbers, etc. –Use fake names, false info Why? –The web page may not be secure, someone else may get this info

Email: Spam, Virus When you give away your email, you may get –Spam = junk mail = stuff you don’t want Ads = “Look at this! Buy me! Try this game too!” Use Spam Filters to block them –Viruses = bad files that do bad things to your computer Usually attached.exe files – DO NOT OPEN Can get from downloads – be careful! (I keep multiple emails)

Passwords Don’t tell anyone! Make it hard for others to guess but easy for you to remember –Don’t use your name or birthday –Don’t use words –Longer = better –Use numbers, symbols like !@#$%^ –Case sensitive? ABC abc

Web Browser Settings History = all web pages you went to –Can disable

Web Browser Settings History = all web pages you went to Cookies = files that save user names, passwords, things you clicked on –Stay until deleted by you

E-mail and Instant Messengers What you send can be saved forever –Be careful what you say! Do not use work e-mail to send personal e-mail. Your boss is legally allowed to search your e-mail. Anything you delete can be found again

Don’t be too personal NEVER try to meet in person –If you must, pick a public place, and tell someone The other person may be 50 year-old man pretending to be 18 year-old girl

Internet Safety Summary Think about your safety before you act. Don’t let emotions (feelings) think for you. Be careful what information you put in web pages, e-mail, QQ/ wechat – others may see it.
