Resources & Lesson Aides Three secrets to a success semester in English 1.Attend class 2.Do the assigned work 3.Seek help when confused (yes Parents, that means you too!) The majority of assignments, lessons, and notes can be found on my SharePoint website. http://teachers.sd43.bc.ca/sfindley/default.aspx (or visit http://gleneagle.org) Remember that you must use your student log in and password to access SharePoint when at home (sd43\125-jsmith and then your password) http://teachers.sd43.bc.ca/sfindley/default.aspxhttp://gleneagle.org Set up tutorial sessions to seek further help (before school, at lunch, after school, online). Email : sfindley@sd43.bc.ca.sfindley@sd43.bc.ca

What I Expect From Your Child Attendance Be on time and ready to start when the bell goes If late, then please wait. Assignments Do the best work on ALL work Use an agenda book or planner strategy Notes are dated, complete, and organized chronologically Homework must be done No Incompletes will be accepted All writing must be grammatically correct
6
How to Help your Son/Daughter? This is always homework for English There is ALWAYS work that needs to be done for English (reading, questions, essays, novel study) Ask about what’s happening in class Studies show that by talking about what is learned, retention is more likely If your son/daughter is away, make sure you call the school and he/she sends me an email asking for work Use email to contact Mr. F (sfindley@sd43.bc.ca) and you’ll usually have a response in less than a day.sfindley@sd43.bc.ca All the work we do is online (including daily notes and homework items) Check SharePoint with your son/daughter to help them. If your son/daughter is falling behind, encourage him/her to ask for an extension on major assignments. An extension will be granted for any assignments if asked for one day before the due date.

Final Thoughts Fair is not the same as equal. This is the first generation in history that has access to more information that ever before: how will we guide them? Give a man a fish you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish you feed him for a lifetime. Don’t believe everything you hear/read/see online, but still read it (it might have something of value): http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/b/billgatesspeech.htm http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/b/billgatesspeech.htm Youtube: Did you know 2008 3.0 (5:16) Did you know 2008 3.0 Did You Know 4.0 (3:56) Did You Know 4.0 (4:46)Did You Know 4.0
