Once a week well begin class with one of these sets of M.U. G. sentences, M.U.G by the way is an abbreviation for “mechanics, usage and grammer”

3 TERMS ON TUESDAY - SYMBOLISM Def: A person, place, thing, or event that has meaning in itself and that also stands for something more. 11 TERMS ON TUESDAY - THEME Left Side: Think about some T.V. sitcoms you have seen that you have found interesting and relevant. What was the significant problem in that T.V. show that needed to be solved? Right Side: Write the term and it’s definition : The theme in a story is its underlying message, or 'big idea.' In other words, what critical belief about life is the author trying to convey in the writing of a novel, play, short story or poem?

12 Connotative: Right Side Left Side: Explain the difference between connotative and denotative meaning. Denotative: Right Side Do Now: Words on Wednesday Film: Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows The connotation of a word refers to the emotional or cultural association with that word rather than its dictionary definition. The connotation definition is the meaning that the word implies. Denotation refers to the use of the dictionary definition or literal meaning of a word.
