1 South East Indians By: Brennan Stark Saul Arbaiza Heaven Carter

2 Tribes…  Chicksaw  Choctaw  Creek  Abenaki  Ironquois  Woodland  Cherokee  Pensacola  Atsina  Seminok  Chesapeake

3 Clothing…  In summer men wear leather going between their legs with animal skin covering the front and back side of their waist. In the winter they add a shirt and leggings to their outfit.  Woman wear skirts made out of animal skin and no shirts.  The children wear nothing year round.

4 Homes…  The Indians settled in villages usually by a river or water source. Their houses were made out of wood, plants, river cane, or plaster. They built and created different types of homes. One type of a house was a long house. It was very long and held larger families. There was also a wigwam which was smaller and more snug like a cabin.

5 Food…  The Southeast Indians made, hunted, or cropped the following food: corn, beans, squash, sunflowers, berries, nuts, fruits, deer, turkey, fish, cornbread, and different kinds of soups.

6 Environment…  The environment for the southeast Indians had dense vegetation and was very thick in trees.  It had a warm and subtropical climate through the Spring and Summer.  It snowed in the Winter but not in all spots of the Southeast.

7 Adaptations…  To build their villages they had to cut the trees down and clear the land. They had to do the same thing for their fields. After the trees fell they chopped them up and used it for fire wood.  They used the Mississippi River for food, water to drink, and water for their crops.

8 Transportation…  They would usually get from place to place by foot.  They also used the Mississippi to get from place to place.

9 Beliefs/Religion…  The Southeast Indians believed in peace and brotherhood.  They also believed in different types of Gods, such as the Deer god, Medicine Man, and different animal Gods. They would hold festivals to celebrate and thank their Gods.
