2 Geography of Cultivation and origin
Cultivated in South Asia for 1000s of years Reached East Asia between 5th and 4th century BC Now cultivated in most frost-free tropical and warmer subtropical climates E.g. Hawai'i, Australia, Pakistan More than a 3rd of the worlds mangos cultivated in India, second largest is China

3 Morphological Description
Trees grow meters tall Long lived and can produce fruit after 300 years. When ripe the fruit varies in size and color; yellow, orange, red or even green. Solitary ovoid seed which is surrounded by the endocarp

4 Cultivation Needs tropical and subtropical climate
Should be grown where there is no frost During the flowering periods Good rainfall and dry summers are ideal Prefers a slightly acidic soil Very prone to a large number of pests, diseases and also disorders.

5 Plant uses Known as a super fruit due to its heavy variety of nutrients. Widely used in cuisines such as Chutneys, Athanu, pickles, side dishes or eaten raw. Used to make juices, smoothies, ice cream, fruit bars, pies. Mango pulp is made into jelly or jam and may also be served with cooked rice.

Over 1000 different hybrids of mango grown in India In Hinduism, the perfectly ripe mango is held by Lord Ganesha as a symbol of attainment.
