2.  Show the exuberance of the flowers that typically bloom in that season.  Because of the subtropical climate, Funchal is hosting the Flower Festival.  The festival begin on the Saturday.  Children dressed in the appropriate fashion flock in the Praça do Município to take part in the building of a mural of flowers – the Wall of Hope

3.  On the flower parade, there are dozens of floats decorated with different types of typical flowers of the island.  The Madeira artists create floral carpets, strategically placed in different points of the streets.  There are competitions for who had the best decoration in shop windows.
