Thermoeconomics Thermoeconomics – A type of economic theory that attempts to apply the principles of thermodynamics to economics. Examples – Energy being defined through the Second Law of Thermodynamics using economic criteria. – Trading systems and the Carnot Cycle

Technocracy Incorporated Technocracy Incorporated is a nonprofit organization founded in 1933 in Ferndale, Washington that advocates a technate government for the continent of North America. Technate design utilizes both the measurement of energy and a new method of social operation. Howard Scott, Founder of Technocracy Incorporated (1890-1970)
4
Technate The term ‘Technate’ was created by Technocracy Inc. to describe the region over which a technocratic society would control using thermodynamic energy accounting instead of the existing “price system” (money based system) that is used today. The Technocracy Monad is the official symbol for the organization
5
Energy Accounting The units of the accounting system would be known as Energy Certificates, or Energy Units and would replace money. Energy units could not be saved or earned, only distributed evenly among the Technate population. Energy units would probably not be a physical currency since the system would most likely be computerised. The Technate would use information of all available natural resources, industrial capacity and citizen’s consuming habits to match the nation’s production with consumption.
6
Why Energy Accounting??? Pros – To ensure the highest possible standard of living. – prohibits expending resources that go beyond the productive or ecological capacity of the region. – Technocrats assert that energy accounting is not rationing, but is a way to distribute an abundance of resources while tracking demand.
7
Why Energy Accounting??? Cons – Technate design and energy accounting works in theory, but has never been proven to work in reality. – This system is such a dramatic change from what society is accustomed to that probably only a major world catastrophe (ie doomsday) would permit such a power shift (from the hands of politicians to scientists) not to mention the collapse of the economy.
