1 You are a reporter for the Spartanburg-Herald Journal. You’re assignment is to peruse several recorded accounts of slave narratives and to compare these accounts to the narrative by Frederick Douglass. You must take into consideration the loyalty of the slaves, the slaves’ treatment by their owners, and the lives they were able to lead after slavery was abolished. Two of the narratives you will read are from former slaves in South Carolina. You must take careful notes and always cite your sources. This feature article must be at least one-typed page and include specific quotes from at least 3 former slaves.
