Avoiding Plagiarism *Are the author’s ideas and viewpoints clear? *Could another person understand the author’s main idea by reading my paraphrase? *Is it the difference between the author’s ideas and my original idea clear? *Have I quoted where necessary? * When paraphrasing, have I put the original into my own words? * When using a writer’s idea, credit the author by name and also cite the work in which you found the idea.

10. Academic Integrity The work that you submit in class needs to be your own work that you did on your own. When helping or getting help, make sure it is help and advice, not rewriting the paper. It is ok to talk about ideas, but students should not have papers that are the same or very similar. Use your own ideas, not your friend’s.
