Why an Institute for Youth Work? The ‘profession without a voice’ (Smith, 2002; Spence, 2004; Davies & Merton, 2009) No professional body to represent individual youth workers Share best practice, discuss developments and access CPD A singular voice

Widespread consultation 92 % judged IYW as a ‘positive thing’ 80% saw its primary function, led by youth workers themselves, as providing a voice for youth work and influencing policy NYA/ETS committee to kick-start the IYW The story so far…

Developments to date: Membership Website– CPD record, News Policy Updates, Session Toolbox, Members sharing Discounted CPD workshops and member discounts available 700 members in first year of launching 32 Organisational Supporters Initial conference for IYW membership Currently electing a Council to take over governance of IYW (3 elected representatives from 4 different categories of membership, 4 specialist representatives, 4 key stakeholder organisations)
