Supply List 4- 1cm x 2cm x 5cm ceramic magnets 1 - #30 Magnet wire 200ft1 Miniature Lamp, 1.5V 25mA1 Cardboard strip, 8cm x 30cm1 Large Nail, 8cm long minimumMisc. Knife or sandpaperMisc. TapeOptional – Hand drill

Box Construction 1.Cut a 30cm x 8cm cardboard strip 2.Score or crease the interior of box using measurements in picture. 3.Fold so the 7.5cm section is to the inside and tape together l 8cm l 3.5cm l 8cm l 3cm l 7.5cm l
4
Box Construction - Continued 1.Mark each side of box with X to find center 2.Use nail to puncture hole through center of box. 3.Use hand to apply pressure to underside of box to prevent creasing l 8cm l 3.5cm l 8cm l 3cm l 7.5cm l
5
Testing Magnet Clearance 1.Insert nail through box 2.Attach two pairs of magnets to the nail inside of the box. 3.Magnetism will hold magnets to nail 4.With magnets centered on nail, test spin the nail to ensure clearance. l 8cm l 3.5cm l 8cm l 3cm l 7.5cm l

Wrap Box with Wire (Coil) 1.Use number-30 magnet wire to wrap exterior center of box. 2.Ensure you have access to both wire ends. 3.Use entire spool of wire and wrap it near the center of box 4.If nail hole is covered, simply separate and tape away from nail hole once finished wrapping. l 8cm l 3.5cm l 8cm l 3cm l 7.5cm l

Attach Lamp 1.Find the two ends of your coiled wire and remove the outer insulation with a knife or sandpaper 2.Attach each end of wire to an end of the lamp by twisting together. 3.Once connected use tape to secure wired ends to box so they do not get pulled loose or unwrap. l 8cm l 3.5cm l 8cm l 3cm l 7.5cm l

Test it! 1.Spin nail with fingers trying to start out a little slow then building speed as not to throw off the magnets 2.A cordless screwdriver may work well but use at slow setting or magnets will come loose. 3.The lamp will illuminate when spinning the magnets in either direction. 4.Faster speeds produce brighter light. 5.Magnets are prone to shift and will need centering regularly. l 8cm l 3.5cm l 8cm l 3cm l 7.5cm l
