3 Login and Go to Google Maps Today we will be charting the course of some very famous European explorers using their own diaries as a guide. Working with a partner please read, research, analyze, and chart the course for your assigned explorer. Create an original Google Map that accurately reflects the route as reported in the primary source. Email map to kimberly_zerbst@charleston.k12.sc.us This assignment has a 30 minute time limit. 4 Mercantilism The theory and system of political economy based on national policies of accumulating bullion, establishing colonies and a merchant marine, and developing industry and mining to attain a favorable balance of trade. What that actually means: This approach assumes the wealth of a nation depends primarily on the possession of precious metals such as gold and silver. This type of system cannot be maintained forever, because the global economy would become stagnant if every country wanted to export and no one wanted to import.

8 Directions: Work with a partner Time limit for assignment: 20 minutes 1.Research the origins of your assigned crop 2.Find at least three dishes from different regions outside of the New World that use the crop. 3.Analyze the overall influence of the dish and how the New World crop was integrated. 4.Using Google Maps create a map that demonstrates the diffusion of your assigned crop across the globe. Email your map w/names to kimberly_zerbst@charleston.k12.sc.us 5.Present your findings to the class. 6.Extra Credit Opportunity 10 points: make a dish from outside the New World that uses your crop to share with the class
