SCORCH What is Scorch? Scorch is a free plug-in that shows notation, plays a MIDI file, allows key and tempo changes, and printing. Scorch files are created in the Sibelius notation program.

SCORCH From your own web site, anyone, anywhere can view, play, transpose and print your music. Visitors to your site don’t need Sibelius, they just download Scorch, (Sibelius' free plug-in for browsing scores online). You can also let people save music from your site onto disk, useful for giving coursework to students. Here are a few examples…

SCORCH Bach - Two-part Invention No. 4 Note that the print function is disabled. http://www.mfiles.co.uk/scores/invention2part-no4.htm Maple Leaf Rag http://www.sibelius.com/products/scorch/scores/pages/joplin.html Salve Regina http://www.sibelius.com/products/scorch/scores/pages/obrecht.html From SibeliusMusic.com you can publicize and sell your music worldwide. Or offer it for no charge. You can even include your biography, photograph, contact details and list of scores on your own page on the site. http://www.sibelius.com/products/scorch/scores/

SCORCH How do you create Scorch files? They are actually two files -.htm and.sib From a MIDI file. Open Sibelius Open File - try defaults. Export > Scorch Web Page Rename Put in * folder (create) Choose to print or save? Browser - Open file

SCORCH Create new Sibelius file See Vocal Warm-Up exampleVocal Warm-Up example Export > Scorch Web Page Save to a folder You can also have the students create warm-ups or chorales for their sections.

SCORCH Files may be: E-mailed to students (be sure to always include.htm &.sib) Saved on flash drives or data CDs Put on webpages Put on computers in practice rooms.

SCORCH You can also save the sound as a MIDI file. You can drag that MIDI file to iTunes (I go to a playlist - easier to find the new song) (note the name is same as masthead) Select Advanced > Convert to mp3. Now you can burn to CD or put on an iPod or use as a ringtone. It is nice to have options.
