2 Why is honesty important?

3 Sometimes young people learn how to be principled through their experiences. Think about a character in a movie or story that learned what it meant to be honest and truthful. How did that person’s behavior change? Think about an oath that a person might take to show that he or she is principled. When might a person take such an oath?

4 o Candid- means saying what you really think or feel o Was Luisa being candid when she said, “We never should have followed you”? o Guilt- the feeling of having done something wrong o The evidence against them proved their guilt. Even though no one had seen Nate hit the ball through the window, his guilt made him knock on the door and confess. o Teach your partner what this amazing word means.

5 Hammock- a hanging bed Would you like to take a nap in a hammock? Driftwood- wood that washes up on shore Would you find driftwood at the beach? TEACH YOUR PARTNER THESE WORDS

6 Algae- simple plants Would you see algae at the beach? sea urchins- small, round sea animals with spiny shells Is a sea urchin as big as a whale? TEACH YOUR PARTNER THESE WORDS

7 Concealed- put out of sight Syn-hidden If something is concealed, is it easy to find? Sternly- strictly or firmly Syn- harshly TEACH YOUR PARTNER THIS WORD

8 Tweezers- small metal tool used for plucking Would you use tweezers to chop wood? Lament-express sadness about Would you lament the loss of your favorite pet? TEACH YOUR PARTNER THESE WORDS

9 Irregular Plural Nouns An irregular noun is one that changes its form when made plural. Person-people Self-selves Hand-hands Plant-plants Shelf-shelves Family-families
