Revision Make sure you have an introduction that catches the reader- what are the 3 ways to begin a narrative? Make sure you have 3 fully developed anecdotes. Are you too general or is the word “I” in there?

Revision I’m in eighth grade now and things just aren’t the same – no naps, no snacks, no recess. Notice the use of a dash for effect. It makes the reader pause, then emphasizes what follows.

Editing eighth grade –spell it out eighth, kindergarten- not capitalized nowadays- one word Avoid “well” and “also” at the beginning of every sentence.

Check Dialogue Writing: It was a Thursday. Normally on that day, after third period, Stargirl and I would pass each other on the second floor around the teachers' lounge. We would smile and say hi and continue on our way to our separate classes. On this day, impulsively, I fell in alongside her. "How about an escort?" I said. She grinned slyly. "Anybody in mind?" We touched little fingers and walked on. Her next class was on the first floor, so we went down the nearest stairway. We were walking side by side. That’s when I noticed. Editing “I used to love going to school.’ (NOT use) Careful of fragments, comma splices, and run-on sentences. “It’s just not right, kids should be able to enjoy a day off from work.”

Editing Correct use of pronouns: Never!: me and John went to school together. Correct: John and I went to school together. Commas of direct address: Okay, kids, it’s time to learn your ABC’s.

Editing I am trying to get ready. (“I” is always capitalized) I’m sure she will be there. Till, cause- slang- do not use in formal writing. It’s, Let’s- need apsotrophes “got” a verb to avoid
