What is a Descriptive Paragraph? It describes or tells about a person, place, or event. It includes ideas, vivid details, words, and phrases that make a picture in your mind. It clearly describes a setting.

What is a Paragraph? A paragraph is a group of sentences about the same subject.

What is a Descriptive Paragraph? It describes the writer’s attitudes towards the places or people in the writing. It includes sensory words to clarify the description.

Writing Model The soccer field was a muddy mess. It had rained all day. Little pools of water covered the field. The players slid and fell in the slippery muck. It was as slick as an ice-skating rink! In minutes they were splattered with mud all over. They laughed wildly as they chased the soccer down the field. It was like playing in a giant mud puddle.

Sensory words Sensory words tell about the way something feels, looks, sounds, smells, or tastes. Ex. The smell of hot dogs and popcorn made his mouth water.

Similes Similes are comparisons using like or as. Ex. The dog was fluffy like cotton candy.
