2. Westward Expansion from 1810 -1860 During the fifty years between 1810 and 1860, the United States grew tremendously. There were many causes for the growth of the nation including war, purchases, annexations, negotiations, and forceful move outs. The concept of Manifest Destiny was instrumental in much of the expansion.
