Spain Begins to Build an Empire in The Americas 1.Christopher Columbus claims Caribbean islands for Spain. 2.Hernando Cortes conquers the Aztecs. 3.Spain Sets up colonies in South America. Why would the actions of Hernando Cortes encourage other conquistadors to explore and conquer the native people of the Americas?
