3. Location Where are we? – Relative- Described by landmarks, time, or distance from one place to another. – Absolute- Latitude/Longitude or street address. Example: – 33 Degrees N, 97 Degrees W (Dallas, TX) – 201 S. Hurst Burleson, TX (Centennial)

4. Location Absolute Location – Latitude and Longitude on a Map Relative Location- My House is South of Niagara Falls.

5. Place What kind of place is it? Human Characteristics – Ideas and actions of people that changes the environment. – Buildings, roads, clothing, and food habits Physical Characteristics – Mountains, soil, beaches, wildlife, and rivers.

7. Human/Environmental Interaction How do humans and the environment affect each other? – Humans adapt to the environment – Humans change the environment – Humans depend on the environment (How do people in Texas and Texas’ environment affect each other?)

8. Movement Humans interact with each other through movement. – Travel, trade, information flow (Phone, E-mail, political events) Everything moves – Fads, fashion, games, music, sports, and education. (How would your life change if you had to ride a camel everywhere?)

10. Region Divides world into units of study – Formal – Boundary that most people know about (State, Country, and City) – Perceptual – reflect human feelings. (back home) – Functional – made up of different places that are linked together. (Mass Transit Systems).
