Fluid intake requirements are related to weight. 0-2 months: 150 ml per kg (for example, a child weighing 7kg should have approximately 1050 ml per day) 1-3 years: 120 ml per kg (for example, a child weighing 10kg should have approximately 1200 ml per day) Over 3 years: 1000 – 1500ml minimum/day (may require more)

* Signs of dehydration When our bodies don’t have enough water, we are said to be dehydrated. If you think you may not be getting enough fluids, check whether you have any of these other common signs of dehydration. 1. Dark urine and not passing much urine when you go to the toilet. 2. Headaches. 3. Lack of energy. 4. Feeling lightheaded.

Water is still important for children/adults. Babies under 12 month should receive most intake from breast milk or formula – note totally breast fed babies may not require additional fluids prior to weaning. After 1 year introduce full fat cow’s milk Avoid caffeine Don’t use bottles for fruit juices Don’t use bottles for milk after 1 year
